“If they're not written down and preserved, then the stories are lost for future generations.”
— Queensland Country Life

Writing your life story is an act of love.

Preserve it — before it’s lost.

I help rural and regional Australians capture the stories that shaped their lives and turn them into clear, beautifully written memoirs for their families.

Writing a memoir is an act of love.
The finished book becomes a gift of love — something future generations can read, understand and treasure.

More Than a Book

A memoir is a gift of love for the people who come after us, a way of being heard, understood and remembered.

You may have said, One day I’ll write it.
Or perhaps your children have said, Please write your story before it’s too late.

The truth is, most people never get around to it. Not because their story isn’t important, but because they don’t know where to begin.

That’s where I come in.

Through thoughtful, guided conversations, I draw out the stories that matter — the childhood memories, the hard seasons, the happy days, the turning points, and the values that shaped your character.

Then I craft them into a beautifully written memoir your family will treasure.

No fluff. No padding.
Just your life, in your voice, simply and beautifully.

Why Rural & Regional Australians Choose The Memoir Writer

I don’t just write rural stories. I understand them.

I’ve spent most of my life living and working in rural and remote Australia — raising my children on sheep and cattle stations, teaching in the Northern Territory, Western Qld, and working alongside communities through droughts, floods, cyclones and bushfire recovery.

That lived experience matters. It means I understand the realities, values and nature of rural life, including what is unsaid.

When your story is written, it will feel authentic because I understand the world it comes from.

Meet The Memoir Writer

Hello, I’m Natalie Stockdale.

I became The Memoir Writer because I know how easily family stories can be lost.

There is so much I will never know about my own grandparents and great-grandparents because their stories were never written down. My father is living with dementia, and many of his memories have disappeared, too. That experience sits at the heart of my work.

As a Big Sky Publishing author, podcast host and professional memoir writer, I have spent years interviewing people and writing true stories. I aim to make the memoir-writing process simple, warm and enjoyable.

My adult life has taken me from teaching in the Northern Territory to raising my daughters on remote sheep and cattle stations, and into leadership roles including Chief Executive Officer of the Jane Goodall Institute Australia. I have also operated small businesses in regional towns.

These experiences taught me how to listen well, ask the right questions, and handle people’s stories with respect and care.

If it’s not written, it’s lost forever.

Let’s preserve your story, simply and beautifully.
