“If they're not written down and preserved, the stories are lost for future generations.”

Preserving the stories of rural and regional Australia,

one memoir at a time.

An Australian business champion finalist trophy.

I’m Natalie Stockdale, an author and memoir-writing educator helping rural and regional Australians preserve the stories that shaped their lives.

Through memoir-writing workshops, books and one-to-one memoir support, I give rural and regional Australians practical tools to capture their memories, uncover the deeper story within them and preserve those stories for future generations.

Writing your life story isn't simply about recording the past.

It's an act of love.

How I Help Preserve Regional Stories

A memoir is more than a record of the past. It is a way of preserving the stories, values and lived experience that shape individuals, families and communities.

Whether you want to write your own memoir, join a workshop, or have me write your story, the important thing is to begin before those memories are lost.

Write It Down

A Memoir-Writing Guide for Rural and Regional Australians

Too many of the stories, wisdom and lived experiences of rural and regional Australians are disappearing before they are ever recorded.

Write It Down is a warm, practical guide to helping people gather the memories that matter and turn them into a memoir worth preserving.

At the heart of the book is The Memoir Compass™, a simple six-stage process.

Foreword by Ros Abercrombie, Executive Director, Regional Arts Australia

Write It Down is an important and timely guide to preserving the voices, courage and character of rural Australia.
Through its practical approach, Natalie Stockdale encourages ordinary Australians to record not only what they achieved, but the people, places and experiences that shaped their lives.
— Lloyd Mills, Chief Executive Officer, Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame

The Memoir Compass™ Workshops

Designed for rural and regional communities and delivered through libraries, councils and community organisations.

Thank you, Natalie, for the Memoir Workshop at Kingaroy Library. We have heard fantastic feedback from the workshop, and a group of the attendees have been inspired to meet monthly to share their progress. We really appreciate you making the effort to come to our town.
— Kahlea Wagner, Kingaroy
I love the way Natalie layered the learning and her very respectful way of inviting sharing. No pressure. The workshop helped me to value my own story, and with the tools she gave us for structure and scenes, we are super set up to go forth. Thanks so much Natalie! I loved every moment of today.
— Sharon Taylor, Gatton
Older woman receiving a wrapped gift from a loved one, symbolising the meaning of giving a personal memoir

Some people want to write their own memoir. Others would rather tell their story and have someone else write it.

Through thoughtful, guided conversations, I draw out the memories, turning points and values that shaped your life, then craft them into a memoir that sounds like you.

No fluff. No padding. Just your life, in your voice, simply and beautifully.

Have your story written for you.
