Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why should I do this now?
Because life moves quickly and memories fade. We often plan to write our story “one day,” but that day rarely comes. By doing it now, you give your grandchildren and great-grandchildren the chance to truly know you, before it’s too late.
-
Can this be a gift?
Absolutely. It’s one of the most meaningful gifts you can give. A gesture of love that connects generations.
-
How long will my book be?
The length of your memoir depends on which package you choose. The Essential Memoir is between 5,000 and 6,000 words. The Signature package is approximately 10,000 words. Every client also receives an editable Word file, so you can change and expand your story later if you wish.
-
Can I make changes to the manuscript?
Absolutely. One light revision round is included. After that, the Word file is yours to edit as much as you like.
-
Who owns my story?
You do. Completely. You can print more copies, or expand it over time.
-
Do you do in-person interviews?
Most interviews are conducted via Zoom. It’s private, simple and comfortable, and you can join me from your favourite chair at home.
I can consider in-person interviews if preferred, although this would require a tailored package. Please email me to enquire.
-
I’m not confident with technology. Can I still be interviewed?
Yes. A family member or friend can help you connect to Zoom before the session. Once you’re online, you’ll find it easy and enjoyable.
-
How long will my memoir take?
Your first draft will be ready within 10 business days of your interview. Your final book will be delivered within approximately 20 business days after your revision round. The full process usually takes about 6 weeks.
-
Can someone help me write my life story?
Yes indeed. Many people work with a professional memoir writer who guides the conversation, organises the memories and transforms them into a clear, engaging life story.
This allows the storyteller to focus on sharing their experiences while the writing process is handled professionally.
-
What is the difference between a memoir and an autobiography?
An autobiography usually tells the story of a person’s entire life in chronological order.
A memoir focuses on meaningful experiences, memories and reflections that shaped a person’s life.
-
How do you record a parent's life story?
Some people begin by asking thoughtful questions and recording conversations.
Others choose to work with a memoir writer who can guide the interview process and turn those memories into a written story that can be shared with future generations.
-
What does a memoir writer do?
A memoir writer helps people turn their memories and life experience into a written story.
Through conversations and careful listening, those memories are shaped into a narrative that can be shared with family and preserved for future generations.
